This is why I love Flickr. For photos like this that push the boundaries and explore new territory.
That and it doesn't hurt that Solea's a pretty beautiful woman with an excellent sense of "the moment".
I'm in awe of many of the folks on Flickr and this is one of those moments that make me wish I could devote myself to photography all the time to create images like this. Its so evocative and simple too!

Cross Section
Found this at the Santa Cruz County Fair yesterday and had never seen anything like it. Pretty neat to look at and see how much wood comes out of a tree when its milled properly.

Breakfast is Fun Time
This morning's breakfast go a little bit messy but that's alright because Grady had a great time.
I never mind so much as long as he's happy. And I love pictures like this where he's gotten raspberries on his forehead!

Seeing Things Differently
A nice example of how adults and kids look at the world in different ways. This is my brother and his son about two and a half years ago on a sunny day in November in northern New England.
Yes, he is a good looking guy.

Leap Dog
Sometimes you've just got to post a picture of a leaping dog. Especially when that dog's your own and she was having a good time playing on the beach and in the water.

Graydon Chillin' in the Sand
Yeah, my boy looks sharp in his outfit and looks great with his grin. He's a sweet and wonderful little guy who's been having a great time visiting with his family and getting to play with his cousins.
I can't believe how big he is already and we're just getting started.
By the way, he can now say "Ma ma" and "Da da" and "Ba ba" (for his bottle). Not bad for a 9 and a half month old little guy, is it?

Sly Guy Grady
Could he be any cuter? Could he be any more photogenic? Could we have gotten any luckier with our little baby boy?
Nope, I don't think so. Teething issues aside, he's been a marvelous and true joy to craft our lives around.
One big smile from him is all I need to feel the cares of the day just slide right off of me.
He's the greatest!

DPChallenge - Accidental Letters
This week's open challenge at DPChallenge is called Accidental Letters, where the image will resemble a letter or letters unintentionally.
Ought to be an interesting challenge but I'll go out on a limb and say that there will probably be alot of "O's".

God of Frolic
"The dog was created specially for children. He is the god of frolic." - Henry Ward Beecher
Just Jo is a contact of mine from Flickr who loves to snap pictures of her dogs playing out on the beach. She has a knack for capturing pure action moments and this one is no different than the others except that its totally different.
She is an excellent photographer and I'd love to get my girl out on the beach to play with her dogs one day. Their pure joy is wonderful to behold.

Two Men Say They're Jesus, One of them Must be Wrong
The title comes from a Dire Straits song that has always stuck with me over the years.
And I love the idea of a pack of wandering Velvet Jesus's. I wonder who they worship? Elvis, the king of all that is velvet?
Either way, this used to be one of my favorite pictures, I found it again the other day and still like it enough to put up to Flickr.

Secret Meeting Under the Chair
I almost forget what a beautifully photogenic and funny dog Modoc was. He was such a great hound with a funny and quirky personality. This is a perfect image of him, a quizzical look in a funny place and something beautiful as well.
I still miss him, even if he was a little bit on the loopy and goofy side. Or maybe because he was a little bit on the loopy and goofy side?

Are You In There Max? Max?
Dogs are funny. In the midst of play, one might even put its head inside the mouth of another. And sometimes, their owner happens to have a camera handy.

Chair. Backyard. Spring.
Simplicity, elegance, a single thought extended into a visual image. Mathowie creates a "Form" of Spring. The simplest elements, together in perfect balance. The grass within the fence is, indeed, greener. The hill behind has some character of its own and the birdhouse helps to hold the chair down.
The fact that he took this with a cameraphone is almost more impressive than the shot itself.

Nature Will Win
Where man and nature collide, nature will, eventually, overcome the frenzied machinations of man. This tree, over the course of years, was retaking the space zoned off by the chainlink fence. I should go back and see how much further its gone now since it was a year and a half ago that I took this shot.
As an aside, I really like these kinds of pictures. Where a tree is growing around some object, there's something compelling about it to me. The pic that got me thinking about this one is this one by Deborah Lattimore (one of my Flickr addictions).

Sunset over Red Waves
Note to self, make sure to take a vacation in Ixtapa before too long. This sunset is simply too gorgeous to not go and witness for myself.

Swim Practice
Another kind of cool shot from one of Graydon's recent swim classes. I like the lighting effect, no filter was used, just a red eye reduction flash.

Tiny Joy
An old pic just reloaded into iPhoto. One of my favorites, a random little girl running down an aisle at CostCo.

Color WWI Photos
I'm still skeptical that its some kind of colourized hoax but check out these French WWI Photos in color. Pretty interesting way to look at that war after so long of seeing nothing black and whites.
Some of the images are particularly interesting, like this one and this one among the others.
I've been warned against the rest of the site so consider this warning to avoid the rest of the site unless you have a burning need to embedded patriotic midis and "extreme patriotism" themes.

When Showgirls Wed
Ryan is blogging his birthday today and happened to post this wedding pic that just kills me.
Sleazy? Yeah, but it makes me wonder what her bridesmaids wore? At least she looks good in it.

Kids with Cameras
(warning, embedded QT video in link)
Empowering Children Through the Art of Photography
With an Oscar Nominated documentary, Born into Brothels ,under her belt, Zana Briski's spinoff project, Kids with Cameras, teaches children growing up in difficult circumstances the art and skills of photography to empower them to appreciate the beauty and dignity of their own expression.
With projects in Calcutta, Haiti, Jerusalem and Cairo, they send great photographers to lead workshops, the children are given inexpensive 35mm cameras to capture whatever they choose and then the children's pictures are shown (and sold) around the world through exhibits, books and film.
Also posted to MeFi.

A Price of Fame
What price fame say you? I bid you click on Keanu Heaves and see that even your should be private moments can be caught on film and broadcast.
So, if you get famous, get used to not picking your nose anymore. Or, if you must pick, wipe it off somewhere and don't eat it, ya sick bastidge!

Johnny's Best
Well, my best pics that I've been able to upload to Flickr thus far. I'm getting closer and closer to the upgrade Pro membership so I can really load up some pics!
But here is the direct link to my Best Pics - a photoset on Flickr.
I'd love to be able to post the thumbs here, maybe I'll cheat! Ah, that really wasn't so hard at all.

Young Blue Eyes
Yet another pic in the series that ably demonstrates how beautiful a little boy we've been blessed with.

People with MadFlickrSkillz
The unseen war - a photoset on Flickr depicts toy soldiers but the images are excellent and well put together. Very cool stuff and a new find via the Flickr Blog, one of my new favorite blogs, they sift Flickr for the best and coolest shots. What a great job!
Can He be Cuter?
Its rhetorical but I don't know how much more cuteness I can stand from this little guy. He makes my heart melt everytime I see him.
He is the best!
He is the best!
Nande's Beach Time Fun
One of those pics you're not sure what's going to happen when you snap it, a little tinting to sepia to bring out the contrasts and its a great photo!
